The description of the route :
A lovely outing in the subgroup of the Campa including the traverse of Campo Spora, Val Flavona and Val di Tovel to the shores of Lake Tovel. The way goes through woods and pastures to meet the impressive peaks of Crosara di Fibion, Santa Maria and Val Scura. The arrival at the beautiful picturesque Lake Tovel is the rewarding end to a walk of about 6 hours featuring fairly gentle climbs except for short sections in the woods.
Starting from Molveno, using the jeep service, you reach the fork for Malga Dagnola Bassa, at an altitude of about 1380 m. From here, take path 301, which follows a very short facilitated section crossing the slopes of Cima Dagnola.
Continue through the woods for about an hour to the Acqua Fredda spring. After the fork with path 302 rising from Spormaggiore, an ascent in dense conifer woods leads to Malga Cavedago. Here the path bends left crossing path 353 at Campo Spora. Shortly afterwards you reach the beautiful grass clearing of Malga Spora where the marmots welcome you with their characteristic whistle.
This is the ideal spot to take a rest and gather your strength before the strenuous climb to Passo Gaiarda, 2242 m, which is the highest point on the route. A few hundred metres after Passo Gaiarda, near Turrion Basso, you come to the fork with path 371, at Campo Flavona. Here leaving path 301 (that in about 90 minutes goes to Passo Grostè) and turning right, eastwards, path 371 descends through woods and extensive pastures to Malga Flavona.
Here, too, is an ideal place to stop before tackling the last part of the route in the magnificent Val di Tovel. There are three alternative ways of reaching the lake: a) the shortest one goes through Malga Pozzol along path 330 and then on path 314 descends a long section of forest road; b) slightly longer (about 30 minutes) is the descent via Val Scura. At first it goes southwards on path 330, between moraine screes, huge rocks and mugo pines, to the fork with path 369, which descends from Val Scura. You continue on this path to where it intercepts the previous itinerary at the bridge over the Rio Tresenga at an altitude of about 1550 m; c) even more challenging is the route along path 330, which passes the fork to Val Scura, crosses Val Strangola and reaches Passo Termoncello after climbing the wooded slopes for about 100 metres. From Passo Termoncello, 1856 m, the descent to the lake on path 339 is in dense woods. You must calculate about an extra 90 minutes walk for this compared with route "a".
